Red Rover, Let Joy Come Over

I remember as a child in the playground the old game of Red Rover, where you lined up in two groups and called out to each other, trying to run through the line and break through. I don't know if children still play that game or not. Maybe no one plays jacks, jump rope or marbles anymore.

Anyway, this little girl with her arms outstretched and her red maroon color brought back that memory for some reason.

She's got the word 'J-O-Y' in her skirt hem, and two holes for dangles. Maybe someone will give her some legs, or hang some fun pearls or something.

She's in the Etsy shop, just something fun and colorful. Could be a bookmark charm, or a red friend for a cellphone. A red dancing girl with eyes in her apron and joy in her hem.

My kids play marbles and jacks... and ghosts in the grave yard too. I don't think I have shown them red rover. LOL... I will put it on my to do list. Should be fun in the snow.

I have to say, I seeing a skull like face in the center of Joy's dress. Does anyone else see it?

Good eye, Kerry - it's more visible if you don't look too closely, like the face of the man in the moon - but I didn't mean it to be a death's head, not intentionally anyway. There's a nose and mouth there too, if you don't focus. Kind of like those pictures you have to look at cross-eyed to see the hidden image, LOL! The eyes are closed, can you see the eyelashes?

We played Red Rover too! My sister broke her arm playing Red Rover. It's not her favourite game anymore. Do kids still play that game?

She reminds me a little of the paper dolls my Gramma used to make for us. Yards and yards of them out of newspaper. Then we would clip them out and decorate them with water colours, crayons, scraps of fabric...whatever was about.

Thanks for the childhood memories, Lynn

Have a wonderful day, LeAnn

LeAnn, that's a good idea too, if I drilled holes through the ends of the arms for links I could string them like paper dolls, joined together for a game of Red Rover!

Jolly good Lynn! I wasn't even thinking of that. But that would be fantastic.

Joy is my theme for the day today! I love the way the letters look, like typewriter keys, I had to look close to see that they're not.
My quote for the day by Thoreau...Surely joy is the condition of life. I don't normally have a quote for the day ;-)..but this came up very clearly today for me, so it's interesting to see the same theme here.
