Shipping OUT

Inside this shipping box is a necklace, a special one. It's on its way to its new home with a lovely new friend.

Making the shipping materials are part of what takes my time, but I wanted an especially nice packaging for this necklace. The paper is decorated with prints from my own handmade collages, handpainted originals printed onto heavy paper. I make the boxes myself, this one uses brads to hold it together. I think it looks like a vintage wine box with rivets in antiqued brass.

Inside there is a hand dyed shibori organza envelope, enclosing the necklace wrapped in protective shipping materials. I dyed the fabric some time ago, it was an experiment in using the organza and I only had that very small piece of a rectangle of cloth. I stitched the edges and made a simple envelope out of it, very lightweight.

On the front flap, the areas where the shibori string were wrapped to do the dyeing show clearly, I love that about it. It shows its nature as hand dyed and unique.

I'm closing up the box, putting it into the mail to head to its new home. I hope the new owner enjoys the package and its contents.

Now I need to use my new paint colors to make some more collages, I like using them for boxes!

Really nice. I've always thought packaging was really important. In Japan, for tea bowls and that sort of thing. The packaging is as important as what is inside. It is all about the experience.
