Dover Over Inspiration and Ideas

I love Art Nouveau designs, they are beautiful and organic. I have two huge framed posters by Mucha hanging in the house, they're wonderful. So when I saw that Dover Publishing is having their summer sale, and a book of art nouveau designs as a coloring book are included, I was so excited! I thought you might like to see some of them.

I have some of Dover's other art nouveau coloring books too. It's great to take out a set of colored pencils and just fill in the colors as you see them, reminds me of times when I was a small girl with crayons and a coloring book.

Dover publications are copyright-free and in the public domain, so they're great for collage or designs, when you need something unusual or historic. I signed up for their sampler, they occasionally send me a list of new books as they come out.

I can see this design printed onto a transparency sheet and put over a hand colored background. Or printed onto a large sheet of paper and colored in, with lettering or images put over the top.

They have a whole crafts section in their summer sale, with books on quilting or stained glass patterns and all sorts of good things, pop over and check them out. Maybe you can save some money on a great book you've been wanting, or find a gift for someone!

Hi Lynn, I just got my fairy yesterday. Thanks for the lovelies ;)
I will try to photograph what I made with my "mermaid" and let you see a pic. I may submit it to bead trends though, I have not decided yet.
Cheers!!

I love that style, too! I can see making that into a vinyl decal, or using it as a stencil template for a border around the top of a room (especially one with high ceilings, like we have)!

Thanks Lynn,

Oh my gosh Coloring books, crayons, and water color crayons rule!!!! I have always had then :) They are the only things that kept me sane, writing my disertations!! For me it's so relaxing because I can turn off my little grey cells and just let the colors flow through my fingers :) And talk about a sudden rush of memories, all I have to do is get a whiff of a brand new box of Crayola crayons!!!!! :)

I love Dover coloring books as well. And the sampler is so much fun.

Those designs look like lots of fun to color.

You say that they are "copyright free". Does that mean that those images could be used for commercial purposes?

The reason I ask is because I'd love to include some images of that type as coloring pages in the Kea Coloring Book.

Thanks.

Hi Lynn,

I see you've been playing with your banner again! Always evolving!

I love the Dover Sample. I get it every Wednesday in my email Inbox. It's like opening up a present in the middle of the week. I keep the images I like by renaming them and saving them in an image file on my hard drive, then I have them handy if I need them. I've also purchased some of the books with CDs -- I believe they can be used for any purpose business or personal.

Have a great Saturday!

Jenny, that's a great idea, you are so creative!

Emanda, I'm tidying up the Etsy shop banners so I updated the blog too, I'm hoping for a lot of new friendly visits this fall!

The Dover books are a good source for images and inspiration that are in the public domain, useful for collage or print publications. I don't know about using them for re-sale as-is, I suppose you can email and ask about the copyright questions.
