Touching the Heart

I truly am as surprised as anyone by the designs that are created in my studio, by my own hands and eyes. I make parts, not really knowing what they will be at the end of the process. Loose components, made separately, at different time just for fun.

I made the square cabochon with the word 'T-O-U-C-H' in the center. I've had it for a while. Not certain in my own mind at that time what it would join with, what the finished piece would be like.

The next thing was casting the wing and tail with the banner of the bird. Somehow, they all came together. And they seem to have a special meaning, a story to tell.

Is it the idea of soaring up high, to touch the sky? Skywriting, with the banner? The large loop at the top almost looks like a symbolic halo for an angel.

Then I found the bright red glass heart in my tray of goodies, with a picasso edge that beautifully matched the hand cast pewter patina on the wings.

Now, it could be a message to 'Touch the Heart' and rise up high.

Or just a pretty little medallion, pewter and glass, red and white.

Yes, dear friends, it did fly away rather rapidly!

I guess that's a clue to me that similar designs may also find a place in hearts, so I should consider making some more.

I thought it was a bit special, I'm glad you liked it too.
