Over the Moon, Baby

Old tin-type photos were often taken with a paper moon in the photo. Back in the days when you had to hold still for a very, very long time to take the photo. I haven't done any research about this, but anytime I hear the term it makes me think of the song. About the paper moon.

Say, its only a paper moon
Sailing over a cardboard sea
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

Yes, it's only a canvas sky
Hanging over a muslin tree
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

This little portrait pendant has a small smiling girl leaning over a paper moon. I made it to resemble victorian style jewelry, with portraits to remember family members that were worn as pendants and pins.

I could make a kilt pin style brooch to hang this portrait. Or it could be part of a long chain, with a crystal dangle. The setting is one I made up as a bezel to create a look like an old style wristwatch case. Or maybe a silver spoon handle, with scrolls and swirls and floral elements.

I love the idea of a pewter replica piece, with a little paper moon and a little baby girl inside. It wouldn't be make believe ...

Oh I love this one too! I love those old tin type images. I think you are spot on with the feeling of the piece. In fact when I first saw the piece I thought it would be perfect hanging from a longer chain. Beautiful.

These are really cool! I'm a big fan of the Victorian look and the moon is so sweet.

You can't really tell the scale but this is really teensy - it's about an inch top to bottom. I guess you can sort of tell unless that's the world's LARGEST silk flower beside it, LOL.

It found a home, I'm so glad. Now I need to make a few more. I created the bezel and mold so I can make more. I think they'd be fun for earrings, too.
