Summer Pleasures

There's a lot going on for me right now. My office is consolidating two offices, lots of construction, moves and change in the entire building. Packing, planning, getting things arranged. It's happening this weekend. I don't mind change, but it does take a toll as it's happening.

The last several evenings I've been sitting out on the deck in the twilight, reading a book until the light fails me. The sound of the wind blowing the windchimes and the cicadas singing is very soothing. I've been enjoying it.

It reminds me of summer evenings on my grandmother's front screened-in porch, watching the lightning bugs light up in the grass of the yard.

The peach tree, with ripening fruit, in the back yard. The bountiful harvest of ripe, home-grown tomatoes, sweet and sun-warmed. The cotton sheets and towels hanging on the clothesline to dry, smelling like fresh summer air.

I have some plans to get back in the studio after the office moves are done this weekend. I'd like to make some more fine silver charms like these, while I'm still inspired by all the summertime fancies and memories.

Maybe if I have enough energy left, I'll get them made up and in the kiln to fire, before I go back to the office on Saturday to unpack and set things right again. Until the next set of changes.

And I still need to post vacation photos, of my journey in the southlands. Soon.

Lynn, you are making me homesick. It is too hot here to sit outside (104F). I understand the change taking it's toll. It's hard to switch gears when you are focussed something as big as a work consolidation. But you'll get back to the studio. Stay well!

Lynn,

It's so important to slow down enough to experience inspirations!!! Inspiration and creative interpretation does not happen in a vacuum. :) I don't know about you but I find inspirations, ideas and "what do you thinks?" when I'm living life slow enough to experience it. Who knows where it might come from??!! Something you read last night the lightening bugs (can you believe I'm 53 and never seen lightening bugs!!I must remedy that soon) the way the sun sets on the garden. But if you don't allow yourself the time to experience living you will miss all the wonderful inspirations!!:)

It's kinda like that story about the guy praying to be saved from drowning, and in the end wondering why his prayer wasn't answered.

I think the biggest lesson LW and I have learned since moving down here, is to slow down and not feel guilty enough to truly experince all that is life. :)

Have a most inspiring time, because your hands create the most amazing interpretations of inspirations!!

Hi Lynn,

Hope everything goes well with the office move. Sounds like you're managing by reading on the porch. I remember growing up on my parents farm and seeing the "fireflies" (must be regional dialect) and trying to run to catch them in the dark. It was fun!

Love the fine silver charms. I'm sure whatever you end up creating, it will be lovely!

Cindy, You're right, I've heard them called fireflies too, but my Texan grandmother called them lightning bugs. We'd try to catch them in canning jars, but always released them later so they could go about their way.

And you're right about the coping. Managing a floor full of moves, equipment and comings-and-goings is tiring mentally, I'm escaping into a book at the end of the day.

LeAnn, it's warm here too, but that's my favorite weather, especially with a large iced tea and an ice cream bar handy!
