New Direction in the Compass

I love things that have an antique look. Pocketwatches, compasses. Things that look like they have a story to tell. I've made several compass-themed pieces, but it's been quite a while. I found these antique compass rose designs, and I couldn't resist them.
Years ago, in Texas, I had a sailboat that I took out on the lakes. I enjoyed crewing on the larger sailboats, too, especially during the races. So I get a lot of pleasure you of these old-fashioned compass designs. To show you the way, and take a heading.
I made them the right size to fit in the new pewter bezel. It makes them look very vintage, don't you think?

These are beautiful! I love things that tell a story too--these look like they have seen amazing things and maybe even have a couple secrets.

It's fun to know you were once a 'skipper'.

Wow Lynn, you are just full of surprises! I love your new compass pieces and the antique feeling of them...they came out great looking. I'm going to keep these in mind.

Yes, I loved my little sailboat. My daughter and I used to sail it together. We had a little house (a "hut" really) on the lake and we spent time swimming and sailing in the hot summertime.

I learned that I am directionally challenged, and the first accessory I put on the sailboat was a compass, so I always knew how to get back to the boat ramp!

I'm still directionally challenged, truth be told.

These are gorgeous! I have always been fascinated by the compass, my dad has a few he uses for hunting, not as beautiful as yours though!

They do look vintage, I love these pendants! I'm impressed that you sail - I wish I could. I'm kind of land-locked I guess, although we have three rivers here in the 'burgh, but alas I have no boat!

They look good, but don't rely on one of these if you're lost in the forest - they are FAUX compasses only - no magnetic abilities ...

Sue, I USED to sail. It's terrifying and relaxing at the same time. I had a habit of overturning my sailboat, but I thought of that as part of the process. I sailed on the lakes of North Texas - so if you have a lake nearby, a fifteen foot boat is just perfect.

These days, since I'm a stone's throw from the Red River, I would be more likely to have a kayak than a sailboat, though. Maybe I need to take up fishing!
