Today, my daughter and the grandson went to the Farmer's Market downtown, to find some organic vegetables. I bought a gorgeous cantaloupe, which I had to cut in half and have a bite of at lunch today. And some local honey, from this area of Louisiana. I'm hoping it will help with my newly acquired allergies. The Farmer's Market was in the parking lot of the Museum of Modern Art, but the museum wasn't open yet. Oh, well, maybe next trip. After we got home and unloaded all the goodies we bought, I went to the studio and got busy finishing some pieces that have been in the works for a while.
The purple heart in this photo is spoken for. A sweet little girl saw one of my hearts, a coral colored one that I wear, and asked me to make her a necklace for her birthday. She told me that her favorite color isn't pink any more - it's purple. So I will be making up a necklace for her to wear, and I hope she likes it!

New Orleans Snoball Treat
I've had snow CONES. But until I heard the advertisement on the radio, I didn't even know about SNOBALLS. There's a SnoBall truck parked near my office. I was curious about them. What's a SnoBall, and how is it different from a snow cone?
Apparently, it's all about the ice. A snow cone is crushed ice, and when you eat it, it's crunchy. But a snowBall is shaved ice, and it melts in your mouth. I got one today to try it out. The flavor was "wedding cake" - kind of almond and sweet. It's really good. And I guess you can get it made with soft serve ice cream in the center, or with condensed sweetened milk dribbled on the top. If you ever get a chance, be sure to try one out.
So I learned another new thing about central Louisiana culture. Have any of you heard about New Orleans SnoBalls??

Fat Tuesday Treat
My daughter shot this photo, it's a Mardi Gras Cupcake.
Yes, today is Fat Tuesday.
When I lived in Saint Louis they had a huge Mardi Gras celebration, the second largest in the country.
But I never got the day off work for Mardi Gras before.
Um Hm. Bet you can guess where the first largest is???
This is a great place! Long live the purple, green and gold, just like the Mardi Gras Sugar on the cupcake.
The cupcake didn't last long, though.
It came from a local place called "Little Cakes" or in french
Petite Gateaux.
Geaux Cajun Feat! Little cakes with big attitude.
YUM!
