Lovely Friends, Friendly Lovelies
Stacey Curry at StarHitchedWagon took one of my odd little transparent components and made a beautiful necklace with it.
When I first saw the photo she sent me, I thought it was a bracelet, but I checked it out on her Etsy site for a closer look. The bead was called "Window Scale" because it has an image of a measuring scale on the translucent window part, can you see it?
I didn't have a specific purpose for making the transparent framed pieces, I think they reminded me of the glass slides of natural wonders that gentlemen scientists used to make and collect, back in Victorian England.
The one side of it reminds me of old black leather photo albums, the kind that have the embossed designs and lettering. And the other side more like an antique picture frame.
Thanks, Stacey, for sharing your creativity and letting me know how one of my little beads grew up to be a necklace in your skillful hands!

I'm working away on a special project for a publication right now and I need the guidance for my hands, for some reason I'm low on energy and feeling very low generally. I feel like I'm letting myself down, not rising to my potential. Do you ever feel that way, like you've failed in some unspecified way, just not making the grade? Maybe like the little girl Gretel felt when she looked behind and saw that all the bread crumbs were eaten up by the birds, a little lost in a big forest.

I love the mystery of that bead. It's got a very tactile quality to it. Like you just want to handle it and see what it is about, what's inside.
Lynn, I'm sharing your low energy these past couple of days. And that lurking sense that I'm missing something. Holidays do that to me. The lead up and then the gearing back up upon return.
Good luck with the special project!
Oh Miss Lynn! I am wishing a renewed and refreshed outlook! I know that sometimes it is easy to get bogged down in the minutiae of every day but remember that there is something good in every day! Seek it and invite it and it will soon turn around. I feel that way...overwhelmed and overworked and way too many things to do in the limited hours I have. Make the best. That is all you can do.
Kudos to Stacey! She is a true talent and I am so glad that she is my friend. I love what she did with your piece. And you should make more. They are like looking at old slides, mysterious and intriguing.
Enjoy the day! Erin
Oh Lynn,
I think we all have that feeling from time to time. In my case it's always lurking just below the surface. Always trying to break through when I get close to a deadline. Maybe because I have that unrealistic fear that I'm really not good enough, and I'm surely going to let them down, and worse yet they will find out that I'm not good enough. :(
That's when I put whatever I'm working on down and head out for a conversation with Mother Nature. Before I use to pound water at the Y until I could feel the negative energy slip away to be replaced with renewed self confidence and acceptance. Now I walk the beach. listen to the waves, feel their spray and watch how all things fit together, knowing their presence is needed to complete the whole. And instinctually understanding they can only fail by not trying :)
Take a half an hour walk away from all the demands, center yourself, remembering that you too are needed in order to complete the whole. Let your self worth replace the negative thoughts that are ever so tiring to maintain. Feel the sun on your face as you return yourself, completing the whole. :)
You are doing fine Missy listen to what your hands want to do, not what you think others want you to do. You are the artist named Lynn there is no one in the world like you, there never has been, nor will there ever be. You are an incredible and unique woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be proud of who you are!!!!!!!!!

LeAnn, you may be right, the approaching trip and holiday may be part of my ennui. I'm feeling stretched and thin, as though if you held me up to the light you might see right through me, just like my bead! Thanks for the good wishes, it helps!
Erin, you've hit the thumbtack on the head. Having the constant drilling from construction under my feet, followed by a fire drill, and having a 12-hour work day in midweek, I feel a big like a loose can of peaches in the trunk of the car, rolling around from side to side!
Pattie, thanks. Just thanks. You're a great uplift, as always.
I'll bet after Gretel dropped all those crumbs, she made lots of birdy woodland friends!
I guess this is as good a time as any to step out of lurkdom and let you know that you have been my secret mentor for several months!
I adore your work and your blog, and hope to be like you when I grow up (I'm only 57 now..)
It's a strange time these last few days, and many are feeling it. Try not to worry - I'm thinking of it as the storm before the calm.
I know exactly how you feel! I'm going through a similar period in my life now too, not just creatively but in every aspect of life. It's no picnic, but think how boring life would be if we were always at our best. :)
Laurel - you made me giggle, that was very kind of you! And let's not grow up now, I'm close to your age and have decided to live backward! And get younger and younger every year ...
Hi, Sparrow, such a lovely blog you've got, with great expressions of some of my same mood, very nicely put! You're on the other side of the globe, but the human spirit still connects, so good to know it's still true. Thanks!
Lynn I think we have all been there - I am so sorry you are feeling low - I hope that you will find something in yourself that brings you up again.
Thank you so much for posting my piece - it really means a lot to me - I was so thrilled to see it here.
The piece went to my sister - her birthday is in July and she asked my mom to buy some of jewelry - this was her favorite. So now I will get to "visit" it every once in a while! :)
